though i do not own a gun, nor ever see myself owning one.
the idea of empowering one's self with a gun is already way to upsetting.
"among the thugs" discusses a similar issue of destruction with regards to police communication. radio communication became the premise for carrying knives to soccer matches so that more harm could be accomplished in a smaller amount of time. previously they just got into fist fights.

but I am aware of the fact that they are stabbing each other nowadays as opposed to fist fights that were present 10-15yrs ago. Not sure how this relates??

Because I can see my 5-10yr old nephews playing all kinds of stupid games and when they are done they go on to fight each other, replicating moves and ideas from the games. Or do same thing from watching WWF. Kids don't know crap and I can totally see them hurting each other seriously, which they sometimes actually do, simply from getting ideas.
Does this translate into a teenager who pulls a gun? Not necessarily, but it may have some effect on his character/thought process in the future, perhaps.
Argument that all kids nowadays play games and that's what they do doesn't fly with me.

If people are going to start pointing their fingers at "violent" video games then they also need to point out how graphically violent normal TV, Cable TV and the movies in general has been. It seems like video games are the first to blame since the demographics are primarily young individuals (although that is definitely changing).
Heck, the first 5 minutes of Saving Private Ryan is probably more violent than 95% of the video games out there. And, yes, I understand the context is different, but the graphical violence is not.
Also, instead of pointing fingers some parents need to start pulling thumbs.

for causing a great amount of attention with a high degree of immediacy in a pedestrian environment.
Police responded in an admittedly quick 4 minutes. By that time 5 were dead at the scene, with 10 others injuried.
Just reminded me of similarities in the book I quoted. Gone are the days of hostage situations. In and over seems to be the way now.
