i'd like to take a remote similar to this:
<img src="http://i11.ebayimg.com/01/i/06/2d/74/4b_1.JPG">
and transfer it into a housing like this:
<img src="http://i10.ebayimg.com/02/i/04/68/fe/22_1_b.JPG">
the functions needed would be lock/unlock doors and an alarm.
a lot of the VW guys get blank switchblade keys and have them cut to fit their cars. that's a cool idea, but the bulk of the key if it doesn't offer any functionality seems pretty stupid to me. i'm wondering if anyone would be able to convert a standard alarm fob into a switchblade key.
i currently have a key just like this except is says GTI, not 16v. i like it because it's small and there's a flashlight built in, but i wouldn't mind not having to carry an additional fob for the alarm

i found this

i'll probably buy a remote once i buy a power lock set up. they're about $55-75 including the blank.
phil actually had the idea of getting all the OEM parts for the locks and having the original key fob work. that'd be great, but i wonder how cheap those parts will be (for ALL parts) even if they are from a wrecking yard. that idea might be worth a shot though especially since golf has a 3 button remote that pops the hatch. that'd be ideal since i got a new plinth which removes the keyhold. i was looking at aftermarket actuators since i need to convert my manual locks to power locks, but all OEM would be nice.
i was originally planning on leaving my rear hatch lock since my doors don't have locks and i wanted to be on the safe side, but screw it.
stock with key buldge in the middle:

new with no key lock

it's also a lot smoother than stock which looks even better.

i also just ordered some more bling. chrome door latches for the door sides
<img src="http://www.its-global.de/FRANCHISE/Hering/CIMG2457.JPG">
and chrome metal door pulls to replace the black plastic ones

i might order a set of polished wolfburg pins for the locks as well. blang blang!
