Default Heh, I did that on a 4kq a while back.. drove it from NH to DC on my 944 tag.

Also drove a red 928 with my red 944 plate on it in FL for a while.. even got pulled over and never had an issue. The registration just said "RED 2DR PORCHE"... just glad they didnt look at the VIN ever.

Default Considering the states you have to drive through (IL, IN and OH) have different laws, I wouldn't

take anyone's opinion on this who's not versed on the laws of all three.

My GUESS would be that they could/would impound the car.

Default Most cops I know will not freak out over a plate coming back to another car owned by you

They are most concerned that the plate simply matches the owner.

You can then blame the issue on pending plate transfer.

Your call, but I have been told the above by more than one cop I shoot pool with.

Default Follow Scott's advice on the temp drive-away plate! Unless you want the car towed away

when they pull you over. That's worse than any monetary penalty in Chicago.

Default Once you're in OH

I've just driven the car over to the BMV on plates from another of my cars for the out of state inspection/title/tags. They questioned me once about what plates were on the car, and I told them the truth, and they gave me a, "well, you really shouldn't do that," but no problems.

I guess the issue is still about getting pulled over in transit. IIRC, you've already got a 911, so maybe the cop won't even notice if he pulls you over.

I drove my black S6 avant back on my black 200q20v avant's tags from CO, no problems, and I wouldn't expect there to be, unless the cop were to check the VIN.

HTH!

i agree with mike....usually not a big deal, as long as the plates come back to the same owner

Default Heh, I'm pretty sure he'll notice a diff between a black 1990 Porsche and a red 1967 Porsche :-0

The way its going, this car will never see Ohio... damn travel and work!
