Default CEL BIGGER PROBLEM THAN I THOUGHT....NEED HELP!

So I got the CEL checked out. Turns out cylinder 1 was mis-firing. Changed the plugs and wires, and all that good stuff...and I still have motor vibration. The mechanic says, the valves are bad. Quoted ballpark $1500 minium to fix.
Anyone have any suggestions of where to go for better price? Or is anyone willing to do this job for me? I'm willing to pay, just not $1500.

Default Flashing CEL or solid?

Did you VAG it after switching the plugs/wires? If so, did the problem move to another cylinder?

Default Re: Flashing CEL or solid?

vaged it after changing plugs...came up misfiring on cylinder 1 so i changed the wires next...check engine light went away...drove it and the cel came back...sometimes flashes, sometimes solid...depending on how i'm driving...mechanic thinks it's the valves because of the ticking.

Default if it ever flashes, pull over and turn the car off...

flashing CEL is not good, solid CEL is usually just a warning.

Default um, if you are ever out in schaumburg, stop by

I'll take a look at you, doesn't sound super likely that is your problem. you "could" have a bent valve I suppose, but you'd know, so I'd say thats unlikely. He didn't say anything other than "valves are 'bad'"?
