I currently have a 2001 1.8T jetta and I am in the market for an all-wheel drive car. I have taken the 2004 A4 1.8T quatro for a ride and was very impressed. I got a quote from Laurel Audi with the sport, winter, and premium etc. for about $32K....This will be a daily driven car for about 30-35 thousand miles a year....For that price, I would hate to "waste" the car with high mileage. Does anyone here put this kind of miles on their luxury car? Will I expect to spend alot of money for maintenance after that 4 year/50K maintence deal? Or am I better off getting a WRX for $24K.....Please give me your opinions....Thanks...

Seriously -- I only put about 10K a year on my TT, but that's more a function of the fact that I work in another city -- I would drive my Audi every day. That's kind of the point of having a nice car IMHO -- USE IT!
For the same $$$ as a new WRX, you could probably get an Assured A4 2.8Q, which I would take over the WRX anyday. (That was my prior Audi). The used market is _really_ soft right now.
My $0.02.

I think if I was in that situation I'd get a Honda or Toyota of some sort. At least for commuting (or whatever puts the bulk of your mileage on)

to drive 35-40k miles a year, they are reliable, I haven't had any major problems with mine and it's pretty beaten up with 50k miles on it. I just think that it's too fast and too rough of a drive to be cummuting in it, I'd get a passat 4motion or try to find a demo W8 passat because they are alotmorecomfortable to drive. If you don't care if they are uncomfortable, cheaply made and rough diving cars then I'd go with one b/c they are fun to have I prob. would own one as my daily driver except I got it as a present. If you go the audi route make sure that you get one that is assured b/c I wouldn't drive one without a warrenty.

are going to spend the bulk of your driving time in an inferior machine?
Buy it. Mod it. Drive it. Race it. Love it.

I just moved from a Jetta GLS TDI to an A4 3.0 Quattro. The car prior to the Jetta was a WRX. Though lacking (for me) in the interior department, the WRX was quick, at least if you waited long enough to shift (power came on around 3500). Below that, it is just a small gas engine, which is how I normally drove it, i.e., slowly, though there were some exceptions to that.
The Jetta TDI drove like that, too, but gave double the mileage doing it. Of course, it was slower all the time. It did have a bit more luxury than the WRX with heated leather seats, Monsoon stereo, and a moonroof. With the A4, I have performance that is not a lot less than the WRX, but with luxury far beyond either the WRX or the Jetta. For now, that suits me just fine.
My recommendation: find a car that provides the level of luxury you want (or can easily live with) and encourages you to drive the way you normally prefer to drive. If the miles are enjoyable, it shouldn't matter how many there are. Other than that, it is up to you to price the difference in enjoyment levels you get with different vehicles.

As in butt load, or maybe butt-load, that's probably grammatically correct, eh?
Like you've never heard of a butt-load before? A **** load, *** load, a whole bunch if you will. I needed something more colorful than typing "I put a lot of miles on my car".
Besides, I didn't say who's butt or what's butt - just "a" buttload.
BTW, it looks like your buddy Zio may take his work very seriously, I have a feeling he may take his work home with him.
