Default Dealer is trying to tell me that the immobilizer is missing...

from an uncut key that I bought on ebay and that I have to buy it separately from them. I had the key cut and the car runs for 5 sec but in addition to programming the key to the cluster, they say I have to buy a pice for within the key. Is this possible?

It's probably just being VERY quiet and not moving.

Default If you just bought the blank metal "tip", then yes, you need to get the immobilizer...

Usually, from the dealer, when you need a new key, they sell you the entire fob. However, the fob is actually 2 pieces- the transmitter section and the key portion. the key portion contains not only the key, but inside the plastic part the immobilizer chip. I know this b/c i just went through this ridiculousness a few weeks ago.
