Default How do you choose an engine oil?

Question for my fellow chicago ACCCC members (for a project I am working on)

What attributes/benefits do you look for in an engine oil? What are companies doing well to communicate the features you want and what can they improve? A lot of people (myself included) feel that there is too much confusion surrounding what is actually the best for your particular car, so what kinds of evidence would you like to see and how should it be made available?

I want your opinion! TIA everyone

EDIT: I am not looking for oil (or oil advice) for my car. I AM looking for your opinions on the dissemination of engine oil information by the major companies (i.e. with all these companies with crazy claims these days, what do you pay attention to and what should be changed in the industry to allow consumers to be better informed?)

Sorry for any confusion

I don't care as long as it's synthetic. I call up Continental & request Russ.

Default I would use the factory BMW oil made by Castrol for your M3

10W-60, the M motors have different tolerances.

Default This is for a project, not for my car

I know the M requires the TWS motorsport 10W60 (Which I use, even though it is $$$$) but that was not the intended point of this post...

I want people's general opinions on engine oil: Where do you get your information on engine oil? (mechanics, friends, internet, etc) and how do you think the information chain can be improved? (i.e. what steps can a Castrol, Mobil, Royal Purple, Pennzoil, etc. take to give you the information you are looking for?)

That's because I give you the "special" blend.
