Default Looking for a good shop to replace my clutch. Here's what I've found so far:

2001 225 TTQC.

GRD
Spec clutch, resurface flywheel, 12 hours of labor
$1729

CPT
Southbend clutch, resurface flywheel, 15 hours of labor
$1825

Audi Dealer
$2900 with new flywheel, $1970 without flywheel.
Service rep told me that his tech told him 90% of the time a flywheel is not required.

Anyone found a better deal? Is this really a 12-15 hour job?

From a few posts below, looks like I should check out VFC...

Default Call Renn-Art - I've had great experiences with Billy. I don't know the other techs, but Billy...

has done a lot of stuff for me and does a great job.

They might be cheaper.

Default Nice sig! Sparty brings back some memories....

And don't buy anything from Spec. Go with CPT and the southbend clutch. My spec II was a POS along with most of the other spec II's that went into b5 S4's.

Default You almost never need to replace the flywheel with a clutch job...

unless you drove the clutch to the rivets and beyond.....resurface it - yes, but replace it - no way.

Default Really? This is the first I've heard this (not that it is not true) and many others use and

recommend the Spec clutch.

GO GREEN!

Default Here's what I got from Renn-Art:

Spec clutch $500
Labor $600 -- 8 hours.

Eight hours? That's nearly half of what CPT told me. I told the guy about the other estimates and asked "can you really get this done in eight hours?" His response was "yes, that's how long it takes us."

Are these guys as good as he says they are?

Default Call Doug at VFC,,

He did mine with a light weight flywheel & south bend clutch. You won't go wrong with taking your car to him.

http://www.vfc-engineering.com/</a
