Default My friend's sis just bought a nice 2br TH in Palatine for $202k

The are really building up downtown Palatine. An Irish bar down there is moving to a new location soon. A brew pub is opening up. There are new townhouses and condos being built downtown, but they are a bit higher than your range. I'm looking at buying a new 2br townhouse in downtown Palatine for around $350k.

I like Arlington Heights and Mount Prospect as well.

Default man. wish I could afford more.

Looks like I'll need to negotiate a raise along with my relocation package. :-\

$350K in Austin buys you a 4000 sq.ft. luxury home.

Default I can honestly get into the city from Antioch using 94...

60 miles away in 45-55 minutes. When I lived in Prairie view it used to take me 35 minutes if I hopped on at dundee. As long as you dont need to do the daily commute thing and can avoid the worse of rush hour its not bad at all.

Default Ive always had more trouble south and west of the city then I ever did from the north.

Maybe thats because of the construction. There hasnt been much of any construction north of the city on 94 in quite a few years.

Default Welcome! Dont forget to add the following to your list:

Snow shovel
Window scrapers
Snow boots
Snow tires
Ice melt
Long underwear

Seriously - most of the towns recommended below will be fine. Spend a weekend or two driving around the different places to get a feel for the different communities.
We should have a full slate of driving activities (autocross & ACNA driver's schools) for next season. Lot's of fun tracks within a few hour commute.

Default 1 more thought:

Wauconda

We moved there from Lake Zurich 7 years ago, and really like it. It's built around Bangs Lake, which is nice, as suburban lakes go. There are even multiple new townhome developments on the lake, and you'd probably be able to get into one for your price range.

The downside, of course, is that it's 50 minutes from the city, but the space, environs, and value are worth the trip for us, as we don't go downtown often. Oh, and there are 7 nice golf courses wihtin 15 minutes, if that's your thing.

BTW - We've also lived in Palatine, and I wouldn't go back there. There are some nice areas, but there are some pretty crappy areas (IMHO), too, and TONS of traffic.

HTH.<ul><li><a href="http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=M7tNO.p_0TqT&amp;csz=60084&amp;coun try=us">Wauconda map.</a></li></ul>

Default The Kennedy, north of Armitage, Southbound OR Northbound, is a clusterfvck pretty much 24/7.

Worst part: It's your only option.

At least in the South you can take either 94, 57, or 55. They've been doing construction on 57 lately, and 55 last year, but it's almost all done now.

Default Took me an hour just to get to Abt Electronics in Glenview the other day.

This wasn't in rush hour traffic either.

Default I never have to use 90.

but from the Palatine area it would be one of the only options.
