The seed won't germinate until it's warm enough.
Scatter the seed now an again in another two months (and a touch more in the fall too). Make sure that you use a blend of annual and perennial grasses.

Feed them something that they like better - in a different part of the yard.
Sprinkle a light layer of topsoil over the seeds - like 1/8"
Buy a bird feeder for the other side of the yard.
