Looking to purchase new auto, but having a hard time deciding between the above listed models. Had a Jetta GLI in the past-drove great!, but had some recurring problems. Has VW's quality improved? The Volvo S40 has gotten great reviews, has anyone driven it? Since the VW/Audi share platforms/parts, are the VWs a better buy?

Let's just forget abbout the Volvo, it's Ok if you're a Farmer.
Regarding Audi vs. VW.... It is the same company with the same dev.departments and basicly the same factorys but.. Where the WV has one bolt the Audi has Two. e.g. The quality, the experience, the feeling is different.

there's way more traffic there and you'll get more responses than from this forum. Keep in mind, this is an A4 enthusiast site, so you'll get a lot of "Get the A4" response. IMHO, go out and drive all of them and see what you like. I hear a lot of good things about the S40 and the only bad thing I heard is that it doesn't come in manual. The A4 offers something that none of the other cars you mentioned offers, and that's quattro - that's what made my mind up when I was shopping for a new car.
