I wonder how HowardForums does it...

They have ALOT of posts, high traffic loads, and a ton of forums. No clue what the server or load balancing is there.

Of course another vB site I frequented, (umm... maxima.org, old car) had to disable the search feature because it was killing the (one?) server.

Also, vortex doesn't even host their own forums, RelyNet handles all the messy details. (see their page)<ul><li><a href="http://howardforums.com/">http://howardforums.com/</a</li></ul>
