They will not run the JE piece, because they want to be able to streamline future upgrades in the software. Not possible with a huge hack on this site.
Is that an absolute?

I know many of us are still because we are hoping for change. If change does not come, fallout may accelerate.

If "Quick reply" works as you describe, then they should eliminate the other two buttons. That plus an option to thread-view the forum and the problems would be solved. That's not a hack, that's simple configuration. No different than having diferent color schemes or different buttons on different sites.

Default Quick Reply doesn't reply to a specific post in Linear View

That is the problem. I don't know how Quick Reply works with Threaded View

Perhaps if you take away the Quick Reply feature from the Linear View, then people would be forced to select a specific post in which to reply. Yes, it has its issues in that there are too many places where one could click to reply to anything in the thread, but taking away quick reply in Linear View would certainly help.

Test. Does this reply using the quick reply (or Post Message) in threaded view actually reply to the post that I was viewing when I replied?

Again, this is a test.

All I know is, they say they are 'looking' at it.

I tell you, if it wasn't for my love of this site, I'd have just packed it in and quit.
Thank you and the same to Jason et al then. I hope that my post, simplistic though it may be, was useful. Sometimes, it's important to take a step back, take a deep breath, diagnose the problem and provide a solution.

Seems as if you're on the right track, i.e. a format that looks closer to KAWF. I'd also like the option to increase the font size, FWIW. Some of us 40-somethings don't have the peepers of the 20-year olds.
