Something that comes to mind when considering these polls...
If you consider the demographic, or rather the psychographic of the people that buy a particular brand, it stands to reason that the type of people that would buy a Hyundai are probably less mechanically inclined, and less picky about noises and idiosyncrasies of their $8k car. Whereas someone that shells out $30k for a german engineered performance sedan will probably be more educated about car matters and be a heck of a lot pickier about odd noises and such.
