Default My opinions: A8L wayyyyy out in front, S500 a distant second, and 745 not even on the radar.

Driven the 745 for an extended period of time and I REALLY don't like it. iDrive sucks so hard that MMI (or whatever the A8 has) can't be worse. The A8L is gorgeous, 745 is hideous.

The S500.... just doesn't do anything for me in any way.

Default If he values comfort and luxury over everything, Phaeton hands down.

That car is quite plush and loaded with simple to use high tech goodies. Stylish? Probably not, but the value is undeniable especially with a lease.

The Bimmer styling is off and electronic gremlins are still present. The Benzo is old technology that still looks okay. The A8L is undoubtedly the leader of the segment right now.

Default The A8L just looks cool, the S500 is just another benz, and all i hear>>>

about the bimmer is about how the iDrive is terrible. Go for the A8L, or if you have patience, the new S8 whenever it comes

Default Audis are cheaper, and I feel up to par in most catagories.

Audis are a good deal if you ask me. BMWs are now BUTT FUGLY, but perform great. Benzs are nice but pricey. Audis are our favorite of course.

745i has been SLAMMED by the magazines for the unreliability and coplexity of the iDrive, S class is old, and A8 is by far the best. By far.

Phaeton will be a big mistake. Sales flop=horrible resale.

Default past performance is best predictor of future performance.....VW has always had strong resale.

I still think that the people who made the Phaeton decision make a lot more money than us for a reason. Once people get over the brand image and realize that VW is serious about improving/expanding their product lines, the Phaeton will hold its own.

VAG is one of the biggest players in the auto world, and I am sure they did their homework before deciding to bring the Phaeton into production. The shift into the big luxury car league may take a year or two of growing pains, but I have no doubt that the Phaeton/Touareg effort will ultimately be successful.
