The ABS light has been on for a while, and now the brake light is flashing.
I told him to take it in for diagnostics, but he's convinced its going to be major dinero to fix. Is there a common failure in this system, or is it likely to be a big ticket item? Its a 1998 A6 2.8Q
Also, do the Audis have the same issue with VAG com reading the ABS controller? On some VWs it is a 50/50 chance of messing up the controller just by scanning it for codes.

my Avant's ABS has been out for around 1.5 years now. My friend's '99 Passat 2.8 had ABS failure last month. I've read about a lot of failures and some are even trying to get a class action lawsuit stated.
BTW...the part is now around $1500 new. A used part is around $300.

I unplugged the control unit, and checked the fuse. Both to no avail until he called about an hour later and said all the warning lights and beeping went off. So maybe just a simple reset does the trick? I half expect him to call me tomorrow and tell me the warning lights are back on.
