Default How to apply touch-up paint?

I have a small, rice grain-sized ding above the right rear fender - through to the metal. I went to the VW dealer and got the matching paint and clear coat. They come in sticks...they look like magic markers with a very fine "felt" tip. There are no instructions on how to apply the paint or clear coat. How to apply the paint and clear coat?
1. Clean area with alcohol and let dry
2. Apply thin coat of black paint and let dry (x2? x3?)
3. Apply thin coat of clear and let dry

Discuss.

Default I would try it on a metal surface first to see how much paint flow you get.

Most of the the time, touch up paint is too thick and it can look worse. Im not sure how thick the applicator tip is, but I would try to get the finest paint brush at a hobby shop to do it. Also, I would have some diluted paint thinner with q-tips on hand just in case. Good luck...
