Default I think I want a full time track car...

I have been thinking about it a lot, and I would really like to spend a lot more time at the track...however, my current car configuration doesn't allow me to do that...

I am considering my options that end up with me having a track car and something to tow it with...

I must be crazy.

Default I was talking to Spinti about this today....

He's been trying to convince me to buy a Miata ever since I got a new job last summer. I think I am going to break down by summer and buy an old Miata for the next weekend/track car.

Take an early 90s Miata, add roll bar, suspension, rims, and I would have a nice car for the track, and it would be driveable as a weekend conv for the wife as well.

Default I'm looking for an M3, and you wouldn't need a tow vehicle.

Unless you went with a full race car, you really wouldn't need a tow vehicle. You drive your street wheels to the event and either store your track wheels in the back (back seat removed, much trunk space) or get a simple hitch like Vicki had and put the wheels in a little carrier hanging off the trunk.

A Miata is certainly a viable option as well. Even though there is no horsepower there, you would probably only lose a few seconds per lap at Sebring vs. an M3. I used to drive my S4 at the track, so I'm a torque junkie.

Default A full time track car is a mistake.....

A car that you can only run on the track is a waste of money if you ask me (unless you are dead set on competiting in a full race series like Spinti). You can have a very competitive track car that can also be driven on weekends with very little compromise.

Default irregardless of past experiences; i wouldn't own any conv without a rollbar....

I come from a family who has owned MANY MGs, Triumph and A-Healeys. Those cars are deathtraps without roll bars, and the bars help a bit.

My sister had a VW Cabrio a long time ago, and she was on an icey road and someone lost control and tapper her car from the side....spun her off the road and rolled 100 yards down a steep hill. Good thing the VW had a roll bar....
