Default Awesome...I am a UCF grad! Great school...

I think off campus housing is a better choice if you have roomates in mind, but their are some real nice newer dorms now. If you can get into a nice dorm that may be more fun. I lived off campus...that was best for me.

Default Bringing your car?

I can only assume you are, in that case there are some off campus places to avoid. I would look into getting into one of the new dorms on campus. First year is always good to do on campus, meet tons of people that way. I had my S4 on campus when I was a freshman, there are safe places to park it.

Default Look into Academic Village and Lake Claire... (Long)

They are the best dorms at UCF. Watch out for Libra and Apollo. I have heard complaints. I have lived at Jefferson Commons (now pegasus connection) and it was alright if not a little rough. The bonus is you can buy covered parking. I lived at the village at science drive and it was a nicer place to live but no parking could get as bad as UCF.

I live in Arden Villas right now. It has big rooms and covered parking but it seems like the management could give two S*&ts about the renters.

If you have roomates in mind you can save money, have a bigger place, and not get kicked out in December if you live off campus.

Hope it helps,

Randy

Default I would say he should look into the two new towers, the apartment style dorms next to the arena.

Those are the badass new dorms. I lived in Libra my freshman year, had a roommate (no privacy, same living space) and we our bathroom connected to another room like ours. It sounds ****ty, but it really wasn't bad, and like mmart6545 said, you will meet so many people and have such a good time living on campus.

Default I used to be a Resident assistant on campus..(lots of info and layouts contained)

Here is the breakdown...

The convocation center apartments are the newest. They currently consist of two towers that have 8 stories, private parking garage, and are located next to the UCF Arena and the soon to be convocation center on the north side of campus. The down side is that there is pretty much going to be never ending construction on that side of campus for the next 2-3 years or so.

4 bedrooms 2 bath:

4 bedrooms 4 bath:

The Academic Village consists of two communities: Nike and Hercules. Each community consists of both apartments (four rooms two bathrooms) and residence halls (four people to two rooms with a shared hallway and shared bathroom). Academic village is located on the southern most point of the campus. There are over 1600 residents in this community. Downside is that it is pretty much the farthest from any of your classes and walking will get extremely old... I was a resident assistant in Hercules over the summer one year. Had fun, nice res halls but too many people for my taste...

Res Hall:

Apartment:

The Libra community consists of 6 buildings and over 1200 people. It is located right near the middle of campus. It has 2 different style rooms depending on what bulding you are in. Great benifit is that you are very close to all of your classes.

Style 1:

Style 2:

Lake Clair apartments are locatd next to Greek Row and are on the north west side of campus. Not as far out as the Convocation center apartments, and closer to alafaya trail. The apartments are set up a lot like Academic Village apartments. up to 720 residents, mostly Upper Classmen.

Last but not least there is Apollo. I lived in Osceola Hall my freshman year. I loved it. When I became an RA, I selected Osceola hall. I lived there for my freshman and sophamore years. I was an RA in Volusia hall my Junior year. Apollo is by far my favorite. Yes, they are the oldest res halls on campus, but they are the most centrally located, easiest to come and go, easiest to find parking, and actually have the most room to work with.

Each room has a 10 x 10 common area that you can chill out in. When you or your roommates have people over, you can chill out in that room instead of keeping your immediate roommate up. There are 4 and 5 person suites in these two layouts:

5 person room:

4 person room:

All in all, I really enjoyed living on campus. The biggest thing is the environment. The people you get to meet and the experiences. As a freshman, I highly recommend living on campus. There are way to many distractions for a freshman.

The most important thing to realize is that if you dont apply for housing by febuary, you most likely will not be able to get anything on campus.

If you decide on apollo, they actually just renovated Osceola hall, and it would be my very very first choice for living on campus. All the goodies of AV, but with the layout of Apollo.
