I am going to the track event at GIR next month so today I called to check on insurance coverage(Allstate). I inquired as to whether or not I would be covered, and if not could I purchase event specific coverage.
The person I talked to there said I would be covered, but could not provide me anything in writing. She directed me to the claims department to verify pay out and get something in writing. Of course they directed me back to my agent.
Anyone have any experience with this? Suggestions?

Last I heard, exclusions apply when you are using the insured car on a track DESIGNED for racing.. Regardless whether you were racing or not..
AllState has also revised their policies not to cover anything aftermarket on a car after $1,000. And, if the accident had anything to do with aftermarket parts that are used for racing (NOS, brakes, harnesses not DOT approved, etc) they have an out there as well.
You are taking a street car on a race track; **** happens. Either get a insurance rider from another company, or get your policy out and see what it states about racing/track/off road use.

As I understand it, as long as the event isn't timed it's really not racing. Also, these things are called "driver's education" so you can reason you were there to learn when you crashed your car.
I've also heard of situations where wrecked cars have been towed to intersections, then the call is placed to the insurance company.

Especially if it's a first event, make a point to go reallll slow. Get that finger out there and point people by. That said, it's real tough not to go ***** out at these things.
Seriously though, if you have the resolve to drive completely within your limits and get a good instructor (ask Studdman, he probably knows some good guys) you'll have fun and still be able to drive it home.
