Default Are they actually trying to lose money at that company?

The car is a great car, but it sells like **** in the US because that's not what Americans are looking for. Why spend the money on a spruced up VW when you can own a Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, or even an Audi for close to the same price? At least with those marques, your neighbors will notice your car, and after all, that's what a lot of those in this market are looking for anyways.

Default Customers we sold to...

Traded in their benz's, bmw, lexus' just for that reason. everyone in their neighborhood had them. they are a dime a dozen down here. the phaeton represented a limited edition luxury vehicle their neighbors didn't have.

Default hmmm...

"So, by reintroducing the Phaeton into the very market that ignored it, surely, Volkswagen must have learned from past mistakes. And indeed, it seems they have. Winterkorn reveals that Volkswagen will be positioning the Phaeton to be lower in the market and much cheaper. This may mean that the Phaeton will no longer be duking it out with the BMW 7-series, Mercedes Benz S-class, or Phaeton relative Audi A8 in the crowded luxury sedan segment."

While the cars are a dime a dozen here, I don't know a lot of people who bought the Phaeton.

considering how few came into the country (+/- 3500 cars in 3yrs) it's not surprising...
