Coolant warning light.

I just bought a 1990 90 series (not a quattro), and it's been great until recently when what i believe is the coolant level warning light began popping on and beeping at me. The engine temp gauge is not working, so I don't know what the temp really is, however I don't believe it is overheating because the car runs fine the whole time and when I check under the hood, the temp feels normal. I'm wondering if it is a problem with a sensor or something stupid like that. The warning light looks like a thermometer dipped in water waves. If anyone has any useful information on this matter I would greatly appreciate it.

The connector could be unplugged/corroded. Also check for low coolant level that's the real reason it goes off.
