Default New 20v owner!!! Questions!

Ok guys...ive been very warly welcomed to the boards over in the model disccion section, where im sure ill see many like handles...

I just picked up a 20v CQ, and man do i love it. Has a few problems such as some rear end grinding noise (which i was told could be diff mounts and such) and i think i have a bad TO bearing....but on to the motor.

This is my first 5 Cyl...weird motor, but man it sounds cool.
1. Is this an interference motor? I hear it is, and the timing belt is just as important to change is it is on my 944. How often should i change/tension it?
2. What weight oil should i ahve in there?
3. Can anyone show me a stock power band report from a dyno? I would like to see where the power shelves should be.
4. T-belt job....easy enough? (unlike the 944)
5. What are these codes i keep seeing? 3B, 7A Etc...
6. Any general "you should know this" stuff is more than welcomed!

Thanks in advance guys!!!

What do you mean "warly welcomed"?

1. Yes it is an intereference motor. If the TB breaks, you'll be replacing a bunch of expensive valves. Inspection is the best rule of thumb, but as an average of around 60k is about it.

2. You'll find a lot of opinions on this. From 10-40 to 20-50. Best bet is to STFA to find all the different selections. I run straight 50W NEO oil in mine BTW, I think I may be switching to straight 40W next time I get some dyno time lined up.

3. Nope, but it is a high revving engine and in stock trim most people say they feel it coming on around 3-3500k

4. Not too bad, make sure you document all the alignment marks BEFORE you take it apart. I've heard prices up to around $350 to have it done. Use the OEM Conti belt ONLY! Just a bunch of belts and a few covers to get out of the way. If you haven't noticed the engine bay is pretty crowded.

5. The stock 20V is a 7A motor (20V normally aspirated). The 3B is a 20V turbo motor found in the 200TQ, it has a distributor. The AAN is a 20V turbo motor found in the URS4 it has coilpacks.

6. You need to buy a Bentley repair manual, you'll need it. There's also a supplemental Electrical Troubleshooting Manual and that's a real good idea too. You'll be discovering a lot of issues with things like seat switches, window motors, and those kind of annoying repairs. Just post in the 80/90/CQ forum, there are a lot of great people who will help you out.

Good luck!
