Default thinking about using 84 4kq tranny for 90tq project

My friend may be getting an 84 4kq parts car and said I could take the tranny. Sooo I was thinking- The stock 90q tranny seems kind of iffy, has trouble going into 1st and reverse sometimes, whines a bit in 3rd ect.. Well, I hear that the 4kq tranny is stronger so it may be a good idea for the MC.
Also, I already have the doner Audi 200 with an MC-2 and brand new clutch (which will be coming out sometime near spring) I believe that the MC-2 flywheel/clutch mates to the 4kq tranny, in which case I wouldnt have to buy a new clutch. AND for fun, the 4kq tranny has a center locking diff
So I'm really thinking about it, but the question is if there are any major alterations or negitives involved that would not be worth it. Comments?
Thanks

Default hmm, that damn shift linkage.

Yeah, that could be a problem, and may take too much time in the initial MC swap stage. Thinking I'll still grab the tranny, go with the 90Q trans, and if it ever blows up (hey, ya never know) I'll have the 4kq trans to think about.

Thanks for the input Jim. Nice sites listed, I should have rememberd from talking to Myke that the linkage was an issue. He got sawzall and welder happy or somethin.

Default That may be a good call,

My car is in more pieces than it's ever been, this heater core/tranny swap/motor refresh is a royal pain in the ****!

Default hah! how long has it been?

and how much longer will it take?

I plan on mine taking a few months from when I start. Well I would hope for a few weeks, but you always gotta double or tripple it. School/girl does that, especially girl. Hah!

Default Hopefully only another month or so

I'm more limited buy $$$$ than anything else. I test fitted the tranny, looks like you need the right or pass side 4kq driveshaft, and keep the left 90q shaft. And 4kq rear propshaft of course.
