I've seen them start to compress slightly (carbon's crap in compression, so it's only the epoxy holding it in) and cause headset slop. Generally not a big deal with short spacers, but with 1.5" or so like you've got it could be an issue.

I have been using carbon spacers for years and have never had an issue.
As long as you take good care of your bike and are doing regular checks on everything it will be perfectly fine

Also, lower quality spacers = issues, or lower quality headset.
That said, I have carbon spacers on my bike and haven't had any issues at all. I'm also running a Chris King headset I've now had for 10 years... and have only repacked the grease once in. Things are stellar.
