anyone got a drill press? Need to drill some holes in 5/8" thick steel plate

and after just a couple minutes a free hand drilling

so I think a regular drill press should do just fine, although the big hole is gonna be a lot more challenging.

dude, that hole's off centered...
For the other 5 holes that need to be aligned, make sure u center punch first, and then use a center drill to get the hole started. Good luck!

Yeah, that's why I tested on this one, that's the only one that doesn't matter if it's just right
cause that whole area will be removed.
For all the others I'll be using the press to ensure correct alignment.

yeah, but now your big hole will be off center as well since that's the pilot hole...
for the hole saw... unless you're not using one w/ a pilot?
Regardless, like Dean said, center punch! they're like $2 at the local hardware store... that or just use a framing nail. Or if in a real pinch, put the drill in reverse w/ bit and hit the center mark at a high speed. That will make a divit and the bit won't walk in reverse.
