I've never had a DWI, etc. but this guy comes highly recommended by lots of people that I talk to... A 1st DWI can be negotiated, so I'd say it's in her best interest to get as much jail time/fines knocked off. Guy's name is Whitestone, he's a regular in Fairfax. Watch out for the son of the father, apparently he's not as good.

and stand in court to agree to the terms, which are usually probation (1 year?), license suspension, alcohol treatment eval, alcohol awareness classes, community service and fines -- assuming it's her first, no property/bodily damage that needs to be repaid to anyone.
a lawyer can only help her if there's a way out of the initial stop by the officer.
have her find someone to consult with to discuss it, but she won't need one if it's a good stop and it's her 1st DWI (without injury to anyone else).
if intelligent enough, she should be able to create the court documents (court should be able to provide copies of them) to expunge her records (assuming she's qual for ARD).

But honestly its hard to see the value in having an attorney, no matter what your screwed. I got a DUI in Fairfax about 3 years ago and all my attorney did was talk to the prosecutor for 5 minutes and it was done. Seemed pretty much the run of the mill for them, and i shelled out 2k for the guy.

if she was hanging out with anybody that night, her "friends" need a real *** kicking to have let her get behind the wheel... how she thought she could drive is a whole other story..
