Took some macros of the sheared shaft, but was in a hurry and didn't clean the oil off first, and they're underexposed. Meh...

...and popped the compressor housing apart (just glued together) to get out the fan...

And since it's been that kind of a day (week), I needed to destroy something, so I tore into the other turbo.
I got impatient and sheared the compressor end of the shaft off. Oh, and the bolts holding the turbine side on were snug and not very accessible, so I had to use the big wrench...

look at all of that carbon/burned oil build up on shaft close to exhaust side of the healthy turbo..

definitely not god looking and could indeed be underlying cause of the driver side turbo failure if it looked similar..shaft seizing and exhaust pushing on the compressor blade making turbo fail...

can you make a close up picture of that black deposit?

The black was carbon buildup. I'll tear apart the driverside eventually.
