being secure in the car with belts and seats will make you seconds faster on the track alone. When you are in a nice secure driving position you are in a much better position to notice tuning differences.
When I was racing the big mistake many people made was to make more than one change at a time. This is a big mistake and can lead to lots of headaches.

Make one change at a time. I know it's right, but it's frustrating sometimes to wait so long to make a change, go to the track, figure out if the change was worth it or not, make another change, etc.

and it's not so much as if it was worth it, but if you change out the shocks, springs, sway bars, wheels a tires, and then the car is slower or doesn't handle right which component is the culprit.
If you just change the the sway bars and the car handles worse than the last time, you know EXACTLY what to look at to make it right.

Instead of making the car handle better as your objective... make your objective = knowledge to make car handle better.
That knowledge is to know how each change will positively & negatively affect everything... and only comes by trail-n-error learning it yourself of applying only 1 change at a time.
I'm doing the same w/ my Miata suspension upgrade path. Talked to a few folks who have gone down the exactly same path, and they agree: It'll take me longer to get "there", but I'll learn a heck of a lot getting "there"... that I can apply to other cars in the future!
