I can't tell you how many times I've heard this phrase; maybe I'm just old. I even recall reading a German magazine article using this phrase in reference to the new S4 4.2 and they're on the metric system.

Default I've yet to find a substitute for a 7.4 litre Renntech engine. Nothing like it.

The sound. The tourque at 1100rpm. The 6.7k redline.
Nothing will pull from start to finish like a big tuned engine... Nothing from a huge turbo'ed 930 to a bi/twin turbo 6.

Not saying it is the fastest thing or way to win races, as turbo charging and other methods (smaller higher revving, indy/etc) engines are smaller and can produce similar power.. But for daily drivablility, big displacement engines are great.

My God! And I thought the twin-turbo 4.2 was overkill

Pre-rap old school. Rhymes not required, just torque.

Default 4.2 is small :-) 928's have had 4.7 and 5.4l engines 25 years ago, monsters for low end,

and even upper end power on the later S4s, all the way to 6300rpm. Screamers, they are..

The Audi 3.6/8 for the V8 Quattros in the early 90's were nice engines, but not torquey at all.. Really had to get them to slip to 3k before they got going. Variocam/vtec/etc has changed all that, now.

Default 4.2 w/turbos pulling 415ft/lb @1950rpm. 928 is one of my favorite cars though.

Cheap to buy used these days if you can handle repairs.

Talking about GT's, would mind a Beemer 850 myself.

Default Whose got 415 with a 4.2 TT?

Yes, I had a 928S4 for a while, then a 928GTS modded by Renntech.. The S4 was 290HP-ish, or maybe 314.. but loads of torque. The GTS was built out from 5.4L to 6-something, and almost 500/ft-lbs torque, and upper 400's HP wise. Auto tranny would bark the tires going into 2nd every time wit 285 tires on the rear. I got a ticket for "improper acceleration" the first week I had it.
