Take it to Advanced Auto or any Jiffy Lube place, they take it for recycling

Default Most brake fluids are very hygroscopic and absorb water from the air once opened

I'd be extremely reluctant to use it if it's been open for a year. I would not use it in a car that's destined for the track.

Default Yeah. For a street car, I wouldn't use the old fluid for more than one year

It's usually recommended that you replace brake fluid every 2 years, so there's still 1 year left on the open container...plus it's been less exposed to air than it would have been if the fluid was in the car.

I definitely wouldn't use it for track purposes.

Default for me: depends on the vehicle & the fluid

I had an opened bottle of ATE Super Blue, opened back last June. But been kept capped tight since. Recently flushed the brake fluid on my Miata with the remainder 1/3 Liter that's left in there.

My rational (or theory): Miata factory brakes are plenty sufficient (esp the 1.8L), unlike on my A4. Plus the ATE Super Blue's wet boiling point (once the brake fluid has absorbed as much moisture as it will take) is already pretty high. Would never do this w/ regular fluid or dare on my A4, as I've boiled the fluid there.

I'll be putting this theory into test next Sat for a 1 day "cone killer" DE w/ Corvette Club @ Summit Pt Jefferson. I think they invited me just so they have some moving obsticles on the straights! I'll be bringing some ATE gold & mityvac just in case...

SOooo... did ya get IT? :->?
