How difficult is it to change rear brakes on a car?
Wife's Kia Optima needs new rear brakes and she's being quoted $210, presumably for rear rotors and pads + labor. I'm thinking I can save a significant amount of money doing this myself, but then again I've never changed the brakes on a vehicle before and considering the wife is pregnant...Is this a pretty simple job in the scheme of things?

according to the shop, they can be resurfaced
so their quote of $205 is for new pads, resurfacing the old rotors and labor. let's assume the rotors can be salvaged - is their a DIY to resurfacing rotors? do you just take them off and bring them somewhere (and where would that be?) to get them done? After hearing the cost break down ($38 for pads, resurface rotors and 2 hours labor), I am now more inclined to try and do this myself.

You can take them to most auto parts stores to get resurfaced
I think it costs $10 or $20 per rotor to have them turned. But honestly, you don't even need to do that. Just throw the new pads on and you'll be fine. Shops are so quick to resurface rotors when most of the time (especially the rears) they don't need it, and a proper bed-in procedure will do the job. Rear brakes do so little work that they don't heat up enough and wear unevenly.
Check out stoptech's website for more information on bedding brakes, but I believe that mostly applies to front brakes.

Invest 15$ in a repair manual which should take you through the steps without problems
if you look at some of the audi writeups here it should give you an idea of how difficult it is.
i would give brakes a 2 or 3 on a difficult scale if at all.

ITs really easy
i know on my car u must have a caliper tool in order to push the piston back in..
Takes about 30 mins to do both sides, once u get the hang of it..
Push the piston in so it is flush. DO NOT over crank or u will be loosing MUCHO DENARO on a new caliper...that is all.
Where u located ?
