Default Might be time to confiscate the breaker bar

Time to replace the front brakes on the Civic and replace the lines all the way around. Honda rotors have a set screw, which were stripped so they needed to be drilled out.

First step of course, jack car up and remove wheel, right? Four lugs. Unlike the Audi, the Honda has studs in the hub. Using the electric impact wrench, one of the lugs wouldn't come off. I break out my trusty 24" breaker bar. LOL. Yeah, half the stud broke off inside the lug nut. But, at least the wheel came off.

Figuring I'll probably have to tow the car to Honda to get the stud fixed, I decided to get to drilling out the set screw on the rotor. After some time with the drill, the set screw was drilled out and the rotor comes right off. For the record, the ricer kid I bought my car from 55K miles ago put those silly cross-drilled rotors on the car. Those are the ones I'm replacing.

Crap, now what am I going to do about the broken stud? So, I call my brother, he tells to hammer it out. I broke out my second favorite tool, the hammer, and hammered away. Surprisingly, it came out with about 10-12 good, hard hits.

Here's what's left of that stupid stud

Tomorrow, I'm off to Honda to buy a new stud and a new lug nut.

My first "incident" with the breaker bar was a year ago when I broke a caliper bolt. My second incident was when I got pissed off at Sears for over-torquing my wheels. And this is my third incident. Might be time for me to find a new tool.

Threatening Sears employees was a better use of the breaker bar. :-P

Default Ah, I remember breaking/replacing my first wheel stud. It's not too bad.

You can probably pick up the wheel stud from your local auto parts store if the dealer is not convenient.

Default Thanks. I'm going through Tysons today anyway, so the Honda dealer is actually convenient

Would you trust an auto parts store for something like this? I dunno, this type of things is an OEM part to me, but that could be my OCD kicking in too.

Default Maybe you just need a 'soft touch' using big tools.

Default That's why my dad taught me bars are a last resort, not for the lazy.

Too many things like this happen.

Ever thought about squirting a bit of breaker fluid on there, enjoying a beer for 5 minutes, then using a normal lug wrench? LOL
