Default need help with Audi 1998 A6

I"m hoping someone out there can help me with my Audi A6 1998. I just bought it and am having transmission problems (w/i a week of purchase). Dealer tells me I need a new transmission. Just replaced the multi-function switch and didn't take care of problem. Doesn't always shift into 4th gear (automatic). Shows DTC 00652. any ideas?

if you bought it from a dealer in md, it is a law that you received a 30 day powertrain warranty.

Thanks. Sadly I bought it from an individual in VA - I don't think they knew the transmission was about to go because I have a clean bill of health from the same dealer dated two weeks prior to purchase.

Default Plenty of answers if you search....

<a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6100/msgs/59161.phtml">Possible causes...</a> but I'd recommend to take it to a good independent... I can think of some who would be able to fix this.

Thanks. The most likely cause listed (multifunction switch) was already tried. I live way down in southwest virginia but if you happen to know any reputable independent audi mechanics down this way please let me know. Or really, anywhere along the I81 corridor might be feasible.

Default Unfortunately, it sounds terminal...

...the 'lifetime' fluid they put in the Auto trans is anything but. Even if it was changed for fresh stuff, the damage is/was likely already done...but post in the C5 forum, if you haven't already, they're a very helpful group over there.

as for any recourse, call the seller NOW...just to let him/her know of the problem. They may be willing to help, since it was OK'd by a dealership a week prior (less than 30 days and xx,xxx miles ago). At minimum, they know it has a problem as of this date.
If they shut you down and give you the 'as is' line, then ask which dealer it was serviced at, try to get a copy of any receipt, and approach (call) the dealer with the problem. Sadly, they're likely to respond in a typical Audi dealership fashion and blow you off...but maintain your case and call Audi of America if you catch flack. Good luck.

Default That code is mostly likely a trans valvebody....

I have had that fault before..You may want to try a valve body before replaceing the trans. I know its a shot in the dark but without seeing the car I a not 100% sure...
It may need a trans or a valve body. Does that car shift hard or hunt for gears other than 4th?
