question about modifying the floor

Here is my question, I recently was given a pair of center console storage nets and I was thinking of mounting them both in the back seat on the floor riser that supports the seat. Basicly they would be at the heals of the rear seat passengers. I know its not super useful but I though it would look cool and hold a map or something since my tiny glove box is crammed full of the owner manual and important papers.
can I drill a self tapper into that carpet/floor material or do i run the risk of piercing through the material and opening up the cabin to the drivetrain and elements?
Thanks for your help.

way... That way you don't drill into things that you don't want to. Also remember that your gas tank probably ends pretty close to that area, so double check from underneath the car to make sure you have the clearance. Use a rivet gun to put on some kind of fasteners that you can put the nets through the carpet to attach the nets to.
