acting he could have been a championship winner. He was that good. He will be missed for that and for being the cool SOB that he was.

I raced with PLN in the 70's, sat with him at camp fires at Lime Rock drinking Coors, Tom Ciccone was one of his early supporters before Bob Sharp. Early on, he drove a TR6 and was very approachable as long as you did not mention Hollywood! He was a regular guy, learning cars and forgetting Hollywood when racing was rustic and a famous driver could mingle without getting run down by overwhelming crowds.
He and Bob Tullius used to always play games, and one National race day at LimeRock, Tullius flew over the deck in his P51 cranking a good 400 knots. The next year, PLN tried it in what may have been a twin-engined Beachcraft Baron, but someone got his wing numbers so when he landed he was in trouble. He missed that race.
