Last weekend, we wanted to get out of the DC area due to the four day weekend and inauguration. We went up to Nemocolin Woodlands in Pennsylvania heading towards Pittspburg, about 190 miles away from Fairfax.
It's a really cool place, and they got about 12 inches of snow over the 3 nights we were there. It was pretty much a constant light snow over three days. We took the front wheel drive Sienna van, with all season tires which were not very good in the snow. I never got stuck, but there were a number of times I wondered if I was going to make it up a hill. Coming home, after traveling about 45 minutes, there was just a dusting of snow on the ground. It was amazing to see such a difference in snow fall. Instead of staying in the main lodge, we opted for a 2 bedroom 2 bath townhouse on the property.
The highlight was an off-road course I drove in an H1 Hummer. Unfortunately, with frozen ground and about 18 inches of snow on top of the ground, it was like trying to drive up an ice covered hill, with 18 inches of snow on top of the ice. The frozen ground (and deep frozen tire ruts) really made the experience disappointing. I have no desire to ever go offroading again. But, I can't wait to get back onto the track. Check out the off-roading video at the end of the post.

Tubing down the slopes was a blast (a little hard to keep the camera centered on the subject while flying down the hill)
