Honestly you could just have the boot replaced...cheaper and
easier than a new axle. You can then order a re-manu from raxles.com or something like that. If you don't hear any clicking noise then your CV is probably fine, just needs new grease and boot. Worse you'd have to replace it maybe later on, but then you could a remanufactured one to install or DIY. Induktion fixed mine after the new boot slipped of the joint. Apparently the new OEM boot was shorter than original stock length. It was dry and needed grease but the CV was fine

I'm not buying that new axle claim
two months isn't a long time to have a torn boot and if your CV joints weren't making any noise I find it hard to believe your axle needs to be replaced.
Mine was torn for 2-3 months or so, when we replaced it the joint still had a lot of grease on it and has never been a problem.

yes, just getting a new boot, hoping the axle is fine.
slight gamble, but curry's agreed theres a good chance it will be ok since I havent had issues with it yet.

yes, this is my trial experience with them. so far so good.
hopefully everything turns out well so I can keep going back (since they are the closest to me by far). I was satisfied how they explained my options, I dont think they were misleading at all. And they said they can get it done before friday so that makes me happy too.

Here's the info on the right axle...
8D0 407 452 KX ($290-446) for an 01 S4 Manual Right front axle.
Problem is that the local NJ warehouse doesn't have any in stock, only Fort Worth does... so it's too late to get one for a Friday repair. :-(
