Default Those with *** cable and HDTV reciever dvr...................

does this box not allow you to set your regular cable channels in 16:9 format? The dudes that came to setup the wall setup got it to work with the old cable box but I just cant seem to get it to be in 16:9 on the regular channels on this new HD box any ideas?

Default the cable box should definitely let you stretch the picture....

i have directv, but i've never seen a STB that didn't allow you to stretch the image. especially considering you probably are feeding your TV with a single digital video feed from the STB (component, DVI, HDMI) and televisions usually have a very limited set of zoom settings when using a digital input. that is where your STB has to pick up the slack and display the image how you want.

on a side note... why do you want to stretch it? SDTV looks bad enough in 4:3 on my 51" widescreen... i view everything in the format for which it is sent. heck, i even change the output on my STB (Directv HDTiVo) to 720p when watching ESPNHD, ESPN2HD or FOXHD and let the TV upscale it to its naitive resolution (1080i) because I think the scaler on the TV is better than the one on the HDTiVo. :-D

Default I dont want to stretch it...................

I want it to be in FULL screen not Stretched or Zoom 1 or Zoom 2 thats what Im having trouble setting up right now. I was able to do it with the old box but not this one for some reason. I use a HDMI cable to connent the box to the tv and the box says its always in 1080i. When I go into the boxs settings for tv format my options are Normal 4:3 with the side bars, Stretched, Zoom 1 and Zoom 2. The one thing I noticed is the Aspect botton on the tv remote doesnt do anything when watching TV regular or HD but does work on DVDs and FULL screen is there. Any other ideas?

Default post the make/model of the STB and i'll see if it makes sense to me..

but i will say that my HDTiVo doesn't do a non-stretched zoom. it's either 4:3 or a horizontal zoom 16:9. i'll check when i get home, but im fairly positive the zoom options on my TV are very limited as well when the input is digital.... i'm not sure, but if you tell the STB to output at 480i, you may get your TV zoom modes back... i'm not sure if it's the input or the format that causes those options to disappear.

Default wait.... maybe i misread your previous posts.....

what do you want your picture to look like... do you just want a 4:3 image with grey/black sidebars (vertical)... or are you trying to fill your 16:9 Tv with a 4:3 image (stretch/zoom)? i'm assuming you have a widescreen tv...?

sorry for the confusion
