Default thx to the FFX Co. cop who just gave me a drive-by "warning" this AM. My luck must be changing!

I've always had the worst luck with speeding and cops. I'm the guy who in the same year (2001) got a ticket on my birthday AND 9/11 - after the attacks... even after explaining to the nice MD Trooper that my GF at the time, who was an American Airlines flight attendant had not been heard from all day from me, her friends, or family.

But that's old news. This morning, i got on 495 outer loop at 123 in Tysons. after getting in the left lane, i do my usual mirror checks and look around, seeing if there are any cops around. Nothing. I'm going about 75 when i check around again, and to my right, 2 lanes over, i see a FFX Co. cop approaching. I'm like, WTF? Where'd he come from? My best guess is he got on from the Rt. 7 exit.

So he catches up and gets over to the lane right next to me. I of course had let off the gas by this point and was going just under 70. He makes a hand gesture with his right hand - showing 5, and 5 again, mouthing what i could only figure was "55". Then gestures for me to slow down. i go down to about 60 while all this is happening. he then pulls to the right and eventually gets on 66 WEst. Guess he had to go somewhere and didn't have time to pull me over. *Phew.*

The last 'run in' with a cop was in Vienna on Maple Ave going home one night when i got pulled over and was only given a warning (first time THAT ever happened).

my luck must be changing for the better!!!

Yah, be careful in Vienna. Major speed traps there.

Default Must not have been Ofcr. Mittendork. My dad's had the same happen to him...

A motorcycle CHP rode up to him in his Dodge Ram and, with one hand (while going 65mph) gestured "5" "5" and yelled, "YOU WERE GOING SEVENTY-FIVE!!" then drove off.

Default You got lucky

FYI, keep it at 74MPH and they won't even look at you. Regular tickets don't generate enough revenue. Only reckless tickets do.

Default is this new since the 'civil fees' or something? i've had all speeding tix in the past

including my last one in 2005 that the state trooper actually gave me a "speeding 20+" instead of reckless on 66 when i was going 78 around centreville.

my history:
3 @ 10-19 in VA
1 @ 20+ in VA
1 @ 20+ in MD (the 9/11 one, was going 78 on 495)
1 "failure to obey hwy sign 35mph" (that's right, didn't give me a speeding ticket, a failure to obey a sign)

they haven't seemed to care that i wasn't going doing reckless in the past...

Default I heard this in court for my last reckless (and last ticket) in July of 2004

Cops were talking during a court recess and mentioning how it's not worth their time to stop non-reckless speeders anymore.

Default Isn't I-66 posted at 65mph outside of the Beltway?

Well, I guess not if you got 20+ in Centreville.

It's discussions like these when I start missing California. On I-5 in San Diego, it's pretty much considered your God-given right (if not your civic duty) to drive 80mph.

Default Is 75mph 10 over on the Greenway?

Does a 65 zone make 80 the reckless level?

I love Virginia. The cops, that is. V1 all the time.

Default Yes, on the Greenway, it makes 80MPH the reckless number versus 75MPH

I'm with you, I don't drive one mile w/out my V1.
