Default Wheel painting question

Who here has re-painted / re-polished their wheels personally? How easy is it? I may be coming across some wheels for the SC in the near future, and I'm debating as to whether or not I should dump the money into sending them out to be done, or if it's a simple (enough) DIY. Would make for a good winter project.

The wheels are Fuchs in good condition, has polished lips that are clean, but the petals are faded. I'd like to get them to be a shiny black, with clearcoat.

Easy enough? Cheeks, I know you did your wheels on the A4 back in the day, didn't you?

Default you can always tape them off prep and paint... but it wont look professional.

we send our stuff to wheel worx and they seem to do a good job.

Default I was going to say DIY until you said 'Fuchs' :)

There's actually some threads over on RL on the proper way to refinish them.

Because of the value of those wheels, if it were me, I'd have a shop do them. If you ever decide to sell them or the car someday down the road and they are professionally done, it could increase the value.

You know a WELL USED set of those wheels usually goes for something like $500 minimum. I've seen really nice, perfectly restored sets up for $1200+! And that's wheels only.

I tried to do 2 of mine. I failed miserably. Aesthetic improvements are not my forte.

Default Thanks for the info, E.

I can throw them on the car "as is", and I'll be fine...for the most part. The good thing is that all 4 are "equally" faded, so as long as the wheels are uniform, I should be alright.

Even the current set I've got on there now isn't perfect, I THINK I could live with the ones I may get... as is.

Or, of course, send them out to be done right.

I'll go check out the RL procedure.

Default or you can just say 'Fuch It' and have them chromed out :)

Yeah...if only "chromed out" was my style, I'd go that route. P
