Default well I was thinking my decision could be influenced on how nice each area

was to live in. Because I want 15-20 min commute no more.

Default Alex. is closer to everything... Sterling is more affordable

IMO, Sterling is a much nicer area to live. It's growing fast, so it won't be long until there's just as much to do as in Alexandria. If being close to DC is a priority, well it's a little bit of a haul, but not painful. I don't know the exact stats, but the crime rate in Sterling is no doubt much lower than Alexandria.

Default First, figure out exactly where you are working

I think the only people that have 15 minute commutes in those areas are those that work from home, or live across the street from their offices.

Job aside, I'd look at buying in Sterling, right next to Jimax's house, and I'd train my dog to pee on his lawn, just for fun

Default you buying or renting?

I suspect that the cost of housing will play a big part in where you live. Not that Sterling is cheap, but Alexandria is more expensive. If the job offers are relatively the same paywise, I'd probably opt for a longer commute to enjoy a lower housing cost.

Both are nice places to live, although you have to be more careful with Alexandria. Obviously Sterling has the characteristics of a planned community so like someone else said, crime and what not are less.

Default Bastard!

I didn't know you were thinking about a place. If you want a house hunting buddy, let me know. I might start looking for a place myself. I really want a single family and like the area.
