Default Is it worthed/safe to buy a unused tire with a manufacture date of 4304 (Oct 2004) i.e 4 years old

Its a celebration wheel and tire combo from craigslist.

Tires are 235/45/17 Michelin Pilot. seller claims that they apparently have been stored in his garage stacked up since he first bought his A6 s-line.

keeping in mind that by the time I will be through with them the tires will have atleast 7-8 years of age.

After seeing all that media specials about recommended expiration date on tires of 6-years.

Default I wouldn't have a problem with it. I would think they should be priced according to their age and

i'd probably keep a pretty close eye on them at first but i'd have no problems buying/driving on them.

Default I've heard that you should replace trailer tires every 3 to 4 years.

Those tires will be rock-hard and pretty slick. I'd be very careful with them.

My wife almost slid into an 18 wheeler on old tires for her Mini Cooper that I bought off of eBay. (Bought the wheels for autocrossing, stored the stock tires that came with the wheels, and a few years later took off the r-compounds and re-mounted the very slippery stock tires on.)

Default NASCAR used rain tires from 2001 this past season. ::shrugs:: I'd use them. winter setups

that I've used have been 4-5-6 years old.
