I wonder if there are any insurance studies showing the differences in accident rates, cost and fatalities between trained drivers and the rest of the idiots out there.

don't know you well or your wife but there are some other issues to consider besides the time, money or hangin' with the guys angle....it might just be that she is a little worried. i mean while it's called driving school and there are clearly benefits to "learning" how a given car handles.... for most of the drivers it's really just an excuse to drive fast, corner fast, brake hard and so on without the fear of getting a ticket.
wrecks do happen and people and cars do get mangled. maybe she's heard some of the injury stories. while for most of the machomen these stores only raise the ante...spouses and other rational folks interpret them as a sign of the real but underplayed dangers at some of these driving schools....
so maybe she just cares for you and is worried for your health, the family and so on....
while inviting her seems like a great idea....i'd suggest she not come till sunday when they have the parade laps. also the first day you shouldn't be thinking about spectators or other distractions when you're just getting tuned in yourself...
just some thoughts....
btw from someone who has been to this event....my view was this event isn't very well done, it's a poor event for 'beginners' because there isn't really much focus on safety or driving skills or teaching or planned learning. it really IS just about driving really fast and trying to out do the next guy. no doubt there will be an occasional instructor, usually from some place else who is really good, and usually these folks will tell you where the better events are held....now maybe the track changes will help...it's a technical track so it could be a great place for learning, but as long as the same folks are in charge....that's not likely. also rain could be a real benefit to the learning side if they took the time (they won't) to work it in to the teaching side.
so be cautious, go slower than you'll be goaded to go and take a minute to hug the wifely while telling her you will be very careful....
cheers

I'm sorry that you were left with that impression, and I'll pass along any constructive criticism in hopes that any issues can be corrected.
ACNA events are supposed to be safe and fun for everyone, and we'll work on any trouble areas. Hopefully we'll see you back there in the future.
