Should be getting my A3 this week and I'll want to upgrade the speakers/amplification while keeping the stock (non-Bose) HU.

Any recommendations?

Kind of a drive, but Stereo One in Cape Girardeau is the absolute best I have ever delt with. Ask for Greg or John Payne (Store Manager). They also have a shop in Carbondale, IL if that is closer to you. If you go to Carbondale, ask for Jeff Martin

These guys do some of the best install work I have ever seen.

I haven't had either of them do an install for me (I do my own) but they've done a few of my buddies' and both have knowledgeable staff that usually can answer my questions or find me special products. Hi-Fi has done a bunch of local pro athletes' and celebrities' systems. If you go to the one on Big Bend (Richmond Heights), ask for Tony Dollar. He's the owners son and runs the car audio department. Car audio is his life.

I had $5k worth of stereo crap done in every car i owned form 16 - 24. And that was at cost and fee labor.
