Visiting Canton/Cleveland....any places to avoid or be careful of?
taking my son to see the Football HOF/Rock and Roll HOF and want to stay at a hotel within 5-10 miles of either. just wanted to know if there are any areas to avoid - people/car safe....
which would be a better area to stay? CLE or CANTON
thanks

Stay downtown in Cleveland.
Downtown Cleveland is O.K., but the general rule of thumb is to stay away from the 20-120 blocks both east and west side. That's a very conservative recommendation...there are some perfectly fine areas within that range, but it'll keep you pretty safe.
Sorry, can't help with Canton.

You'll get lonely in downtown Cleveland--like a ghost town these days. Nothing left... :(
There actually aren't many places that are bad or dangerous in Cleveland. Near east side before you hit the suburbs maybe, but it's hard to get there if you're passing through. The highways avoid them.
I've lived here all my life and have never had a bad moment and have accidently driven through some of the worst places. For all its other faults, Cleveland is pretty safe overall.
Stop by the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum on the east side of Cleveland by Little Italy (University Circle). One of the best car museums in the country.

Stay in between the two...
Many nice hotels around I-77 and State Route 18. Known as the Montrose area (split between Copley and Bath Township - West side of Akron). Safe area for people and cars. You're also very near where LeBron James lives (Cleveland Cavaliers), so you might see some really nice cars rolling around there.
Lots of good restaurants too. Would be about 1/2 hour drive South to the Football HOF and the same North for the Rock and Roll HOF.

meh...the coexist nicley...but the MLB HOF is 10x greater than the nfl one
just because it has 50 years more history to draw on, and it's in a 100 year old (original) building it's self. The nfl building is pretty new in comparison and just doesnt have the same charecter.
