I am the proud new owner of a 91 coupe quattro. the car is what i have wanted for a long time. anyway, it drove great for the first 300 miles, when all of the sudden yesterday it started a weird virbration. here are the facts:
the faster i go, the worse it gets. it seems related to the driveline. the entire car resonates with the vibration. here's the weird-er part: when i hit the brake (moderate-hard) or turn right, it stops!
a tidbit: the exhaust has a leak, and i haven't crawled under the car since this problem started--- could it have fallen on a propshaft, with this type of effect?
i don't think it's a tire problem. i am betting it's a bearing/joint somewhere in the driveline. anyone been here before? know the answer?
this problem has totally destroyed my honeymoon with the car.... any rapid responses with a solution would help me eliminate the darva conger effect :-)

The '90/'91 coupe quattro is known for failing exhaust hangers; don't drive the car without checking the rear where the exhaust goes up over the rear driveshaft. It will rub a hole in the exhaust pretty quick. If so, weld a patch to the exhaust and replace the hangers.

thanks for the quick response!
would the exhaust rubbing the propshaft make such a *dramatic* vibration/resonance??
one response i got directly on my email says it may be the driveshaft center bearing. a tech told me the same. but all of the sudden it goes?the car has 88,xxx miles.
look forward to yoru response. thanks !!

You'd be surprised at how much noise/vibration a faulty exhaust can make.
When my borla was misaligned on my a4, it shook the whole car and sounded
like a freight train.
