lil'lgr

while driving yesterday after the car had been driven for over an hour my girlfriend and i started sightseeing for a while i was driving awfly slowly and when i went to accelerate to move on i stayed in 2nd gear and went to take off but the car chugged as if i were in 5th so i stopped and started in 1st and it still chugged very abruptly. i pulled over and could see oil burning but it does that but not this much it chugged all the way home but not as much at faster speeds what could possibly be wrong??? please anyone who has any idea please send
