Last week my wife put some petrol into our CD100 avant .. which had been running great. As soon as she started it we had lost number 2 cylinder. I checked the Spark.. no problem. I checked the compression.. no problem. That leaves Petrol. I have changed the Injector.. that still has not cured the problem.. though it is better than it was.The spark plug is black.. which suggest a rich mixture on just the one cylinder..also a strong smell of fuel from the exhaust..obviously unburnt fuel. If we reach the higher rev range the problem is nowhere near as bad as the low rev range.. Could it be the fuel distributor jammed open at a higher rate of inlet than it should be ?.. It is a 2.3 litre D reg injected engine.. any ideas would be gratefully received.

By now it is so fouled, that even if it didn't cause the problem in the beginning it sure is contributing now.
The other plugs are fine? How did you check the spark? You may have a spark, but not enough to light the fuel. The plug wires, even the Bosch, are notoriously crummy on these cars.
I don't think that it is possible for the fuel distributor to put different pressures to different injectors. I am pretty sure that you would have the same problems on all cylinders. The only exception is if you had a blocked injector line.
