They are far from being the same bodystyle, and I believe that the radios are quite different. I DO have a stock '92 100cs radio with all speakers and amps for sale. Make me an offer for part or all if you want it.

I am thinking about replacing my stock rear speakers. The left rear speaker has started to rattle/crackle with bass. The cone's probably worn out/ripped (haven't checked) I was wondering if I only upgrade the speakers (rear only or all) would the sound improve much since I don't plan on replacing the head unit. It sounds like the headunit puts out more power than the speakers can handle. Or do I need to go full out to replace the speakers? (new headunit, amps, speakers 2f+2r+2tweets?) TIA

If they do, your cone material (usally mylar) may be fine and either the head unit or "built-in speaker amp" is bad.
As far as general stereo stuff, power doesn't equal good sound. Distortion (often clipping) is usally caused by either the amplifier not being able to deliver enough power or the speaker not being able to handle the power being delivered to it.
To double the volume (how loud something is) you need to triple the power. Stereos/amplifier output power ratings are governed by the FTC now because there was a history of manufacturers basically lying about their power capabilites, that's why you should always see power rated at into an 8 ohm load from 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz as a minimum. As far as I know speaker power ratings are not regulated so get ready for some phony numbers on unbeleivably priced speakers. And stereo salesmen making up bull**** numbers.
If you want new speakers just go to a car stereo shop with your favorite CD and listen to a bunch of speakers using the same stereo (head unit). Most places have a display set up for this purpose.
Also get ready for a ton of bull**** and lies from stereo salesmen. If you don't have a good understanding of DC and AC electricity, harmonics, etc., just listen to your ears and your pocketbook.
Don't forget about the form factor (shape) of the speakers.
You may want to go to www.crutchfield.com to get some ideas, they have a nice "selector" for differant car models on their web site. I'd doubt if their prices are very good.
If you want more advice let me know. (start a new thread too, get further up on the board).
